How long do I have to volunteer for my child to receive a place?

A minimum of 3 years - the time it takes for a child to move through a section.

Do I have to volunteer in my child's section?

No, you can volunteer at either Beavers, Cubs or Scouts.

What happens if I stop volunteering before completing 3 years of volunteering?

Unfortunately your child will loose their place when you stop.

How often do I need to attend?

You will be expected to attend your section's session every week but where you can't, it is expected you will have agreed it in advance with the other section volunteers. At a minimum, volunteers are expected to attend atleast 80% of the section meetings in a Term.

Do I need any prior skills, training or experience?

No, Scouts provides the training and support.

Will I need to attend weekend camps?

Yes, although we expect your child will also be attending those camps.

How many children and volunteers are in each section?

Between 20-30 children and 3-4 volunteers.

Will I be on my own?

No, there should always be another volunteer at each meeting, with parent helpers usually assisting.

Will I receive pay?

No. Croxley Green Scout Group is 100% run by volunteers. However volunteering in a child facing roles means a reduction in your child(rens) subscription fees and coverage of the cost of your volunteer Scout uniform.

Do I need to sign a contract?

No.

Who plans the sessions?

Each sections' volunteers collectively plan a programme of delivery before the start of Term ie it is known well in advance.

What happens if I want to go ahead with volunteering?

A volunteer from the section you're interested in will contact you to invite you to a session without your child so you can experience and assess, without the distraction of looking after your child, whether you think you would enjoy volunteering at Scouts and whether you think your child would enjoy it.

What happens if after attending a session I want to volunteer?

The induction process will formally begin. We will set you up on the Scout online system so you're invited to a welcome conversation meeting, can complete your DBS application, references and online training modules.
